# 1 of F1

Fairies and knights, princes and princesses, castles and demons, love and hatred.....are just as real....as you and me…but AYRTON SENNA was an incarnation of God.
This is a tribute to the greatest driver that the F1 fraternity has ever seen – Ayrton Senna Da Silva.

I can still vividly remember that moment…..the moment that forever shattered the myth of F1 and poignancy is what fills me in.
I was watching that race at Imola , when suddenly everything seemed blank .I couldn’t believe that it was Senna’s Williams, which had crashed out. Everyone was hoping against hope that all’s well. I stood looking at the TV screen as they removed him from his car………no movement….…no reaction.
Nobody knew what was going on and the silence was killing me. My palpitations had increased, and then the dreaded moment came. The newsman couldn’t hold back his tears and neither could I ,as he announced that Senna was DEAD!!

On the track , Senna captivated our sense of adventure, passion and intrigue, and did so whilst effortlessly leaving rivals in awe. Others drivers may succeed, trying to compare with Ayrton, and maybe set new records but never again will another driver bring that kind of passion to the tracks.

Fangio…Villeneuve…Prost….Mansell…..Piquet….Schumacher all these F1 drivers are great in their own way, some a little more than others but Senna was not in their mould. He was a perfectionist. He was truly a Fearless Warrior and Wizard of Speed
From 1988 , when he made his big move to McLarens, till 1994,he created magic on the tarmac. He had scant respect for preconceived notions and proved that effortlessly by defeating Alain Prost who was the team’s #1 driver that year.

In 1990 and 91 Senna won back-to-back titles while being involved in fierce battles with Prost and Mansell. Although he could win only three championships more was surely to follow ,if only his untimely death hadn’t happened. Senna brought with him seemingly limitless talent and indomitable will to win. I miss I miss those shining years of F1 when Senna,Prost,Mansell and Piquet would fight for very inch on the circuit.

I guess God must have thought him to be too good to be a mere mortal and took him away from us. The man, the machine, the tyre is all gone. What we are left with is only memories…..memories which will be forever etched in our minds.

"Whizzing green, blue and yellow,
Why didn’t you turn at Tumburello.
Formula 1’s saddest ever day,
Saw the greatest ever taken away"
